Mangalore, Jan 30: “Women and other marginalized groups must be brought to main stream for a well developed nation. For this, the educated people must make use of their power of wisdom. Forming an equitable society should be the aim of economic development,” said Bibhas Kumar Srivastav, executive director of Corporation Bank.

He was addressing the gathering at the annual day celebrations of Besant Womens’ College Mangalore on Tuesday January 28.

According to his observation women are currently not active in all spheres now, but the educated women can surely help in bringing the fellow women to the fore front. The education coupled with self confident and a favorable atmosphere for women will spur them to participate in all civil affairs. Education must bridge the gap between rich and the poor, men and the women, city dwellers and villagers, he opined.

Highlighting the importance of converting the theory learnt at colleges in to practice, the values like honesty learnt in schools he said, should become the part of the personality and it is the virtue for a country to possess honest citizens for they contribute towards the real growth of the country.

Appreciating the services of the college he said, the education institutions like these are paving a way for more just and humane society by imparting education to women of all groups in a non discriminative basis.

Kudupi Jagdhish Shenoy, president, Women’s’ National Education Society presided over the function. He congratulated the meritorious students who were felicitated on the occasion. The correspondent B Mohan Nayak welcomed. Prof Pushpalatha B.K read the annual report.
