Karkala, Feb 1: Municipal members have demanded proper waste management under the limits of the town municipality and they also submitted a plea to this effect. Members also warned that if the officials failed to perform their duty, a complaint will be filed with senior officials demanding proper action. This incident took place in Karkala town municipality on Saturday February 1 at Sadananda Kamath Convention Hall.

Mohammed Shareef said, “Decisions of previous monthly meetings have not been valued. Officials failed to maintain the cleanliness of the town. During the eve of Attur Fest, people from all over the world will throng here. Karkala town panchayat has no need for those officials and staff who show negligence.”

Opposition leader Prakash Rao said that though the warning has been given not to throw waste on the footpath it was of no use. “Waste has been dumped on the road side at Kabbettu; what action will you take?” questioned Nalini Acharaya. Ashfak Hammed said, “We should create awareness among the people and create awareness by giving an advertisement in the media”. Health supervisor Sundhar Poojary said, “Solid waste should be disposed off by outsourcing.”

“Works in the town municipal are pending. If people come because of problem to town municipal there is no person to respond to the problem. CEO is rarely seen in the office. The situation will deteriorate,” alleged Navin Devadiga. “People should get information about the town municipality and officials should place boards on their table about their name and department,” said Subith N R.

“Road repair work has been done from Anthashaya to Three Roads. The road work of Banglegudde to Pathonjikatte road is lagging behind. Immediately repair the road from three roads to Salma,” said Giridhar Nayak. Main road works are still pending alleged Parshwanatha, and Divya D Pai. Ashfak Hammed and Mohammed Shareef said, “The sub contractors who repair the work of Banglegudde and Three Roads are separate contractors. Hence, there is no problem to start work at the same time in both the places.”

“Kabbettu Garage has no environmental clearance and is illegal. Health supervisor is neglecting the locals and is directly supporting him,” said Naveen Devadiga. “Officers use money of the town municipality to fuel their private vehicles,” said Mohammed Shareef.

Town municipal president Rehamath Sheik presided. Vice-president Shashikala, standing committee president Vinnybold Mendonsa, and CEO Mebal D’ Souza were present.
