Students create awareness on cancer through street play

Mangalore, Feb 4: To commemorate World Cancer Day, the medical students of NSS wing of Nitte University organized an awareness programme on cancer.

A street play was conducted by the medical students at IMA house, Milagres, Mangalore on Tuesday, February 4 at 10 am.

After the formal ceremony medical students of the NSS wing of Nitte University organized a free check up camp for the oral cancer patients throughout the day.

The chief guest of the programme was Dr S Ramanand Shetty, vice chancellor, Nitte University, Narayana, area officer of railways, Mangalore.

Dr Murali Mohan NSS programme co-ordinator Nitte University welcomed the guests and a street play was conducted by the Nitte medical students spreading the awareness of oral cancer.

Dr S Ramanand Shetty, in his speech, he said "We are celebrating the 'World Cancer Day' today  to create awareness among the general public. When it comes to cancer, some of the people have a mind set that it isthe  number one killer among diseases and it is an enemy of humanity. The World Cancer Day was declared in the year of 2008. And from 2008, we are observe such cancer awareness programmes every year. This particular disease, is a black mark to the globe. When one person is affected with cancer, his entire family's emotional attachment is curbed.  This affects the entire family."

"Today there is no restriction on anything. Within a fraction of a second you can reach to the other side of the globe through internet. A person who is affected with cancer will have to spend  a lot on their treatment. To fight the cancer, people sell their house, land and borrow money from others." He added.

Narayana, area officer of the railways said "People lose their lives due to cancer, and the government subsidizes everything for the cancer patients. You guys are doing a fabulous job. In the railways, we have one particular destination as a target to reach, in the similar manner there must be a target. Happiness must be your target."

Dr Murali Mohan proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Mangesh Shenoy, Dr Ranjith Shetty and others were also present.
