Udupi: Rural postal employees' strike enters 4th day

Udupi, Feb 21: The indefinite strike by temporary rural employees of postal department started by All India rural postal employees union (AIGDSU) on February 18 has reached its fourth day.

They have said that they do not have social security and are still employed on a temporary basis with point based work. Their employment on compassionate grounds is unscientific, they say.

They demand increment after certain years of work and filling of vacancies.  They have also complained against increase in work and such other programmes by the government.

They have said that they have already protested in front of PMG, CPMG offices and held Parliament Chalo programmes to highlight their demands.  They have demanded that they be included in the seventh pay commission or brought under a separate pay commission.

The protests are said to be in progress in Karnataka.  Divisional secretary B Vijaya Nairi, president Basava Billava and other office bearers Nagaraja Shetty, Diwakar Shetty Kaup, Vaikunta Aithal Sasthana, Santhosh Madhyasta Kota, Vadiraj Udupi, Kiran Parkala and Raghavendra Kundapura have released the information for the press.
