Bangalore: Private companies refuse to give power: 2 to 6 hr load-shedding in Karnataka

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, May 5: With the summer heat increasing and demand for power going up, especially from the domestic, offices and hospitality industry for cooling and air-conditioning, energy consumers in Karnataka are now left to contend with load-shedding,
The load-shedding has been necessitiated in the State in view of the increase in demand and the refusal of private power generating companies refusing to supply power to Karnataka’s State grid.

Consequently, all energy consumers throughout the State will be subjected to load shedding across the State from 2  to 6 hours a day.

However, the load shedding in Bangalore City would be for a minimum duration of 2 hours a day.

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) would announce the load shedding schedule load soon.

Availability of power to the State grid has been reduced by 1650 MW a day.

The private power generating firms denying 650 MW to the State-owned electricity supply companies (Escoms) while the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has cut its generation by 600 MW.

There has been reduction in the generation in State-owned thermal power stations.

Giving these details to reporters in Bangalore on Mondahy, State Energy Minister D K Shivakumar said the State’s power generation has been reduced from 8522 MW to 7572 MW owing to technical snags at the Raichur Thermal Power Station and Bellary Thermal Power Station.

The demand for power has been reduced from 185 million units to 165 million units a day owing to decreased demand from the farming community and rains in several districts.

At present barely 712 MW of power would be purchased daily by paying Rs 5.50 per unit, he said.

High Courts of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have stayed the State government decision to invoke Section 11 of the Electricity Act to make mandatory for power generating firms to supply power to only Escoms.

Following the stay orders from the High Courts, the companies have stopped supplying 650 MW to Escoms.

The UPCL has stopped supplying 600 MW to the State grid citing non-availability of coal.

However, the State Government has filed a petition before the Central Electricity Authority and challenged the UPCL decision charge higher tariff to Escoms.

The Government has been paying Rs 3.50 per unit against Rs 4.50 per unit fixed by the UPCL, he said.

    Yes dear mayya and all-)

What is the solution, do we people just complain and complain and complain.....?

Some complain against bjp and some against congress end of the day we citizens are losers...

Is it not time to be united and create history by kicking all these tainted corrupted people from the government.

And I appreciate to support the solution, not to get fund from any world bank as this leads to corruption.

Dear all be united and stop blaming the government it is we who are not following the rule of land... But we dance to the tune of the party.Root level has to be corrected ... the candidate who is working towards the welfare of the community and respect all religion. If foundation is proper then everything will follow with the base principle.Do not wait for other wards to implement, implement first in your ward and set an example for others to follow.
Currently politics is known as the last resort for the scoundrels, it means that it is the place for all the anti elements of the society to enjoy themselves. I don't blame 100% ministers are corrupted.. But they are not by taking bribe but by keeping quiet. What is the point in being good for nothing.. But it doesn't mean that we have to elect corrupted people because they do something which is not good... Taking hundreds of loans and concreting the road without plans and end of the day we are in thoad (drain) by paying the tax. Karnataka is collecting the highest road tax, does it mean that no other state does not have good roads.
In this and coming generation we will not have a shortage of fund as there are many to lend the money for their interest, then why not plan it and then utilize rather than to use for the asking of using. Similar example is that any scheme comes like the underground drainage lines...Firstly they concretize the road then they dug for the drain lines. What is the use..Spend again?...
This is lack of plan and coordination between department & believe me M tired of blame game

Just look at these pathetic Congis. Just 2 weeks ago, with election fever at its peak, these very buffoons had d tht Karnataka has excess power and for once they had solved the energy issue and how they are better than Gujarat. Now that the election fever has subsided and as they are getting back to usual work, truth prevails.....load shedding is here to stay and electioneering meant that blatant lies were spread to lure the voters.

Congress and BJP make fool of people by diverting the real issues like good roads, continuous water supply, and electricity, so the best option is to elect AAP both these parties will be for shock or suffer from paralysis.

i do not know how these will manage now, but i knew BJP had managed power crisis better, they had bought coal by paying more, during BJP time there was power cut, but it was very limited and for farmers they had given 3 phase for more time. Let's see how Cong's will do, i remember during Krisha Govt, we use to have 6 hr power cut in rural area , morning 3 hr and evening 3hr.
