Mangalore, Jul 2: ‘Bale Tulu Kalpuga’, a programme to encourage outsiders to learn Tulu, organized by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, was inaugurated by Janaki Brahmavar, the president of the Tulu Academy, on Tuesday July 1, at the Tulu Academy Hall in the MCC building.

Tulu teachers Prof Vedavathi, a veteran professor, and Manjula Shetty, lecturer at Government BEd College and ex member of the Tulu Academy, were present on the dais.

The course was officially inaugurated by lighting the auspicious lamp and a prayer song by Spoorthi Mahila Mandali.

Speaking after the inauguration, Brahmavar said, “Soon after I became president of the Academy, I received many comments and suggestions from many people and one of the important demands by the people is a Tulu learning course and thus, we have come up with the concept ‘Bale Tulu Kalpuga’. We have been also encouraging schools and colleges to start Tulu courses.”

“I am very happy to see that many outsiders are interested in learning Tulu and that thus wanted to start this course at the earliest. So, we had to hurry up and start this programme at short notice,” she said.

Raghu Idkidu welcomed the gathering.

It’s nearly a two-month course and at present 30 people from various places like Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bangalore, and Chitradurga have registered and are attending it. This is a spoken Tulu course and Tulu writing courses are to be carried out in the next session.
