15,000 km more of gas pipelines to come up

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS): The government will set up 15,000 km of additional gas transport infrastructure and further exploit coal bed methane gas reserves, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Thursday.

India has an existing gas pipeline network of 15,000 km and requires to add an additional 15,000 km, which will be developed in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, Jaitley said in his budget speech for 2014-15.

The enhanced grid will promote usage of gas, reducing dependence on one source of energy, he added.
