Mangalore, Jul 15: The supreme court has ordered gas agencies to strictly follow the norms of weighing the gas cylinders in front of the customers before delivery. A B Ibrahim, deputy commissioner, Mangalore, urged all the gas distributors to follow this norm in a meeting and training session held in the DC office on Monday July 14.

The session was organized by the district administration, Rotary Club Mangalore West and Metrology Department.

All the gas distribution staff must be given a weighing device. If the customers raise any doubt with regard to the weight of the cylinder, then the staff must compulsorily weigh the cylinder in front of them.

The gas distributors raised the issue before the DC that it would be difficult for the staff to weigh and give away cylinders if only one staff is on duty. Responding to this plea, the DC urged all the 14 distributors to compulsorily weigh the cylinder and then give it to the customer so as not to compromise with the issue at any cost and thus give better service at all times.

The public also raised the issue that the gas distribution staff is charging more fees than that mentioned in the bill. The DC sought clarifications from all the distributors and urged the public to pay only the amount mentioned in the bill and complain to the number given in the bill if they demand more money.

A demo of the weighing machine was also held on the occasion.
