Make us feel safe, NE community to city police

Bangalore, Oct 25 (BangaloreMirror): "We feel insecure at times in the city, please make us feel safe": This seemed to be the unanimous sentiment of the North Eastern community committee at a meeting they had with the Home minister KJ George and police top-brass in the police commissionerate on Friday. The delegation comprised 8 students and working 8 professionals.

'Two years ago when an SMS indicating attacks on us in the city did the rounds, 8following the riots in Assam, we felt insecure. The government took measures to build confidence in us. We are %feeling that insecurity again, especially after a recent attack on one of our community members in Kothanur,'' a community leader said at the meeting.

These opinions were voiced in the presence of the state police chief, Lalrokhuma Pachau and police commissioner, MN Reddi. After listening to community members, George reportedly assured them support.

George told the gathering to provide a list of areas in the city where members of the North Eastern community live. Committees will be formed in those areas. These committee will listen to grievances from community members and take up their issues with the authorities. Community members were told to walk into police stations fearlessly whenever they were intimidated or attacked. They were told that if the local police did not help, they should contact the nodal officer, VS D'Souza who is stationed at the police commissionerate. "He will initiate the necessary action, George assured them.

Later speaking to the media, George said, "I have issued instructions to the police top brass to deal firmly with those who create fear among community members."

Let no civilized citizen of India be of any state, cast, religion, race, colour or language feel unsafe anywhere in India.
Everyone have their own identity, culture, language and food habits.
Let us not become tools of our enemies evil designs to divide us.
Let there be unity in diversity among Indians.
There is fair competition for we are diversified.
Let us accept and be sensitive to one another.
United we be strong and safe. Divided we fall apart and become weak.
    What are we for?
