The tanker, which was bound for Kannur from Mangalore, was stationed on the national highway. Finding that no one was present in or around the vehicle, someone called the police. The policemen grew nervous and concerned after they got information that gas was leaking from the tanker. They rushed to the spot, and after detailed verification, were relieved to find that no such risk was posed by the tanker.

In sometime thereafter, fire brigade got a call from some passersby, who said that gas was found leaking from the tanker. The fire brigade personnel were dispatched to the spot for inspection. After they confirmed that there was no gas leakage, people of the area heaved a sigh of relief.

At last it transpired that the tanker could not move ahead after reaching Nayammaramoole due to some technical problems. The driver had therefore, parked his vehicle by the roadside, and left to get assistance from workshop. By the time he came back, the truck had drawn the attention of many, and forced police and fire departments to act fast.
