Udupi, Oct 31: Waste disposal management and encroachment of land were the issues that raised a ruckus at the general meeting of CMC Udupi held on Friday October 31.

The slightly heated exchange of words between the ruling party members and
opposition members created chaos in the meeting.

Opposition leader M R Pai raised the issue of land at Beedinagudde,
encroached upon by a municipality bill worker called Nazeer, who
hails from Bagalkote. “Geetha Shet, CMC member, was there as an eyewitness. The locals
believe that he was running immoral activities from his residence home and on October 19, 2014, the police raided his home, but no action has been taken by the CMC,” he alleged. The encroached land actually belongs to the SC/ST community.

Dinakar Shetty reiterated these views and said that it is a matter of shame to the CMC and the culprit should be suspended immediately.

Shyam Prasad Kudva said the unpermitted flex banners in the city must be removed. Supporting this issue, Janardhan Bhandarkar suggested formatting certain restrictions on usage of flex banners,.

Shashiraj Kundar opined that road contractors should be respectful to their respective ward councilors.

Sumithra Nayak alleged that Herga is completely ignored by the CMC management, with regard to the sub branch office and premises. She further stressed that an amount of Rs 2 lac had been spent on drainage and demanded clearance of Kodange Road, which was filled by gravel.

According to complaints by Prashanth Amin and Ganesh Nergi, nominated councilor, Malpe beach needs sanitary facilities for tourists. “The small shops are increasing without any permission. But the beach management president is the DC, so people do not bother about such rules,” they said.

Amin said that the management does not have the will power to provide efficient services.

Then CMC commissioner Shrikanth Rao responded positively to the matter and said that the committee will take a decision after a discussion with the concerned department.

The CMC decided to increase the number of vehicles for waste management and ensure a clean city.

The committee finalized the road damages, potholes on the state highway from Monakalmuru to Manipal.

Yuvaraj said awareness must be created about cleaning from the root level like schools, village panchayats, distributing pamphlets, street plays, and so on.

Amritha Krishnamurthy, vice-president, was present at the meeting The whole meeting concluded with worthy suggestions by the CMC members.
