New Delhi, Nov 8 (IANS): The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 933.01 million at the end of March to 942.95 million at the end of June, registering a growth of 1.07 percent over the previous quarter, data released here by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) showed.

"This reflects year-on-year growth of 4.41 percent over the same quarter of last year. The overall tele-density in India increased from 75.23 as on March 31, 2014 to 75.80 as on June 30, 2014," it said.

Subscription in urban areas increased from 555.28 million at the end of March to 559.77 million at the end of June. On the other hand, rural subscription increased from 377.73 million to 383.18 million.

Wireless tele-density increased from 72.94 at the end of March to 73.55 at the end of June.

However, wireline subscriber base further declined from 28.50 million at the end of March to 28.03 million at the end of June, registering a decline of 1.66 percent. The year-on-year decline rate of wireline subscribers for June 14 is 5.72 percent.

Wireline tele-density declined from 2.30 at the end of March to 2.25 at the end of June.

The total number of Internet subscribers has increased from 251.59 million at the end of March 14 to 259.14 million at the end of June 14, there has been a quarterly growth of 3 percent, out of which wired internet subscribers are 18.55 million and wireless internet subscribers are 240.60 million.
