Mary Kom flags off social awareness campaign


New Delhi, March 2 (IANS): Five-time World boxing champion M.C. Mary Kom on Monday flagged off a campaign here named 'Box Out' against social evils like sexual abuse and corruption.

The vision behind this campaign which was initiated by sportswear brand Dida is to 'Box Out' the evils in the society and also to create awareness for major challenges like sexual abuse, eve teasing, acid attacks, corruption etc.

Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom also unveiled the blogging page of the 'Box Out' campaign by registering herself as the first member of it.

While addressing the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) students during the event, Mary Kom advised all of them to work on their fitness for at least 40 minutes in a day so as to stay fit and fight against the evils like eve teasing, sexual abuse etc. She also gave tips of self defence to the students.

Mary Kom said: "I have donned my gloves this time for the cause of humanity to box out the evils plaguing the society. I appreciate the 'Box Out' campaign initiated by Dida Sportswear and I am sure our campaign will help us in creating awareness in the society to fight against these evils."
