Gremio secure Real Betis striker on loan

Rio De Janeiro, March 3 (IANS): Brazil's Gremio have signed Uruguayan striker Braian Rodriguez on loan from Real Betis, the Spanish club said.

Rodriguez is expected to be officially presented to Gremio's fans on Tuesday after completing a medical and agreeing to financial terms, Xinhua reported on Monday

"He will be arriving today from Spain," Gremio's president Romildo Bolzan told ESPN Brasil.

The 28-year-old was a special request of Gremio coach Luiz Felipe Scolari after the off-season departures of Marcelo Moreno and Hernan Barcos to China.

Bolivia international striker Moreno joined Changchun Yatai and Argentine forward Barcos signed with Tianjin Teda.

Having signed with Real Betis in 2013, Rodriguez has managed just one goal from 12 appearances for the Seville-based club.

His lean spell continued last year during a loan spell with Spanish second-tier outfit Numancia, where he scored seven times from 39 matches.

Gremio will have the option to buy the player when his loan expires in June next year.

Bolzan said the club would announce two more signings by the end of the week.
