Nanaiah says BBC documentary tarnished India’s image globally

Bengaluru, Mar 9: Former Law Minister and senior JD(S) leader M C Nanaiah said that the BBC documentary, India’s Daughter, has tarnished the country’s image globally.

Nanaiahis heading an expert committee constituted by the State Government to suggest amendments to the law related to sexual assault cases and enhancement of punishment for the crime,

Addressing presspersons in Bengaluru on Monday, he said many sexual and rape cases were reported from Britain and other advanced countries but no documentary was done by interviewing convicts.

The documentary contained defamatory remarks against Indian men, he contended.
Nanaiah questioned the motives behind the documentary done by British Director LesleeUdwin.

He felt more stringent laws were required try sexually assault cases.

The State Government had set up 10 fast track courts to try such cases, he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also criticised the BBC for airing the documentary.

Nanaiah said thecommittee headed by him is expected to submit its report along with its recommendations to the State Government in the next three months.
