New Delhi, April 9 (IANS): DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday announced a direct daily flight from Delhi to Dimapur in Nagaland from April 15 onwards.
Addressing the 64th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), Jitendra Singh said the government was trying to start direct flights to many other parts of the northeast, as air connectivity has always been an issue for the region.
The meeting was attended by the governors and chief ministers of the northeastern states, and officers from the state and the central governments.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the development priorities for a particular state should be fixed in consultation with that state.
"Politics should have no place in developmental activities and there should be absolute coordination between the state governments and the concerned central ministries," he said.
Corruption should be eradicated in implementation of development plans, he said.
Rijiju said the northeast has great potential to emerge as a trade hub and the union government has the vision to "Look East through North East".
NEC secretary Ameising Luikham presented his report on the various development activities being carried out in the region.
Several issues related to railways, road transport, civil aviation and border were discussed in the meeting.
