Mumbai Metro offers 'pizza on the go' to commuters

Mumbai, June 5 (IANS): The Mumbai Metro One, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has tied up with Domino's Pizza to introduce "pizza on-the-Go" to commuters, marking one year of operations.

The first-of-its-kind quick serving restaurant of Domino's Pizza has been opened at Chakala (JB Nagar) Metro station. Commuters just have to take a break for a few minutes to grab a fresh pizza without having to go out of the station, a company statement said.

These outlets will serve pizzas of one size with different toppings, starting at Rs.60.

"The Mumbai Metro has become the synonym to quality and speed that Pizza on-the-go symbolises. It is a unique offer to the commuters that has been conceptualised keeping in view the convenience of commuters," a spokesperson for the Metro said.

By July-end, two more Metro stations -- Andheri and Versova -- will have similar outlets and most other stations will be included in near future, the statement said.

The spokesperson said this was the first such Domino's Pizza outlet in India, which will bake a pizza in three minutes and offer it to the customers. The outlet also extends the concept of watching their pizza being baked, thanks to a glass window.

A few days ago, the Mumbai Metro started its anniversary celebration by introducing offers and discounts on several retail products -- food, fashion, healthcare and gadgets -- along its corridor.

The train system started its journey last year on June 8. It has thus far ferried over 90 million commuters in 130,000 trips, with more than 99 percent efficiency, the statement said.

The project is a consortium formed by Reliance Infrastructure, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, and Veolia Transport of France with stakes of 69 percent, 26 percent and and 5 percent respectively.

The 11.4-km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, to provide connectivity between western and eastern quarters of the city, was awarded to Mumbai Metro One for 35 years.
