England "not interested" in hosting 2018 or 2022 World Cups

London, June 6 (IANS): England has no interest in hosting the 2018 or 2022 World Cups even if they are taken away from current hosts Russia and Qatar, a top English Football Association (FA) official said on Saturday.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn said the 2018 World Cup should be held in Russia and the 2022 tournament outside Europe, reports Xinhua.

"It has gone to Russia in good faith. They have not had a World Cup, why shouldn't they play there? And 2022 was never going to be in Europe so it should be outside of Europe," he said.

UK Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said earlier that England should step in once the chance comes.

England won just two votes in bidding for the 2018 World Cup.

"So we support the World Cup being dispersed around the world, as the name suggests," Glenn said.
