Vancouver, June 9 (IANS): Defending champions Japan defeated Switzerland 1-0 in the Women's World Cup in Women's World Cup group C here.

Aya Miyama converted a spot-kick in the 29th minute after Kozue Ando was fouled inside the box by Swiss goalkeeper Gaelle Thalmann on Monday, reports Xinhua.
