Bengaluru: Khader has tough time over rising dengue cases

Daijiworld Media Network- Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Jul 17 : They were all united this time cutting across party lines when it came to attacking health and family welfare minister U T Khader on Thursday for not doing enough to check the rising dengue cases and shortage of doctors in the State.

"A patient has to spend a minimum Rs 14,000 to get treatment in private hospitals," said S Suresh Kumar from BJP while criticizing the minister for not doing enough to prevent the spread of dengue.

“Treatment for dengue fever is very expensive. The poor patients are badly hit. The health and family welfare department has not taken any measure to control it. The department blames urban local bodies for dengue cases in urban areas. The first thing the department should understand is that mosquitoes do not have any jurisdiction,” K R Ramesh Kumar from Congress said.

Khader in reply said "So far there have been only one confirmed case of dengue death in the State. There are three more suspected dengue deaths. Of the total 12,201 suspected cases, 1,586 are confirmed dengue cases." Khader also said that steps were being taken to prevent breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue.

The members again cutting across party lines slammed Khader for defending the department.

Ramesh Kumar said “Dengue is wreaking havoc in the State, but the minister argues that the number of cases is less compared to last year. Nobody is bothered about your
numbers. The health officials would not act like this if their dear ones had died,”

“The BBMP officials are using water to fumigate neighbourhoods in the absence of prescribed chemicals. I have purchased the chemical spending money from my pocket in my constituency. I am ready to take you to the worst-affected places in my constituency,” K Gopalaiah from JD (S) said.

"Breeding of mosquitoes cannot be controlled unless spraying was done at regular intervals. Neither the BBMP nor the health department is scientifically dealing with the issue. The system of reporting dengue cases is also faulty," Dr C N Ashwath Narayan from BJP said.

“It appears that the minister is helpless and is not able to take independent decisions. He may say yes here, but the person sitting here has to sanction,” Dr C N Ashwath Narayan stated pointing at chief minister Siddaramaiah’s chair.

Earlier the members, many of whom are Congress MLAs, demanded that the services of contract doctors be continued and the process to transfer them abandoned.

It was indeed a tough time for Khader in the assmbley when it came to the issues concerning his department.

Khader should be given charge of 'entertainment and publicity'. Taking part in kambla, tug of war, 'helping' civilians in full media presence, driving his own car and showing off, playing cricket etc. he is only good for such gimmicks with media coverage. Not health for gods sake,

Surprise inspection at Government Hospital, eating at roadside eateries and participating in kambla. Usual rhetorics and media publicity. Misplaced priorities? Now he realized that role and responsibilities of Health Minister is quite different. He has increased salary of government doctors but is not ready for fresh recruitment to cover the shortage. Look at his statement, "Every year 6,645 new doctors graduate from medical colleges in the state. Among them, as per the order of the state government, two additional doctors can be assigned for each of 2,353 primary health centres." Majority of medical graduates out of his 6645 is like those to come out from Kanachur Medical college like institutions, setting-up of which against the conscience of locals and rule of the land to which he is an integral part. Further he advised nursing students to be courteous to poor patients!!! He reprimanded doctors for nurses going on leave. PHCs already suffering severe staff and fund shortage and he is exploring extension of working hours without addressing vital issues. Poor dengue mosquitoes are not aware of the reputation and popularity of Mr. Khader at Ullal. Circus show with plenty of clowns around!!!!

Khader is good person. He has to check govt., hospital position. In rural area, there is no facility in government hospital. To get medical facility poor person has to give bribe. Khaderanna go as common person without any supporter and Gutada car then you get real picture. Then give direction and order wherever required and check whether mistake rectified or not. If they not follow your order. Kick them out. Then you will be NO.1 Minister. No body is dare to blame you

It is so easy to blame Minister Khader for what is not his fault. Let people realize that they should keep surroundings clean and neat, so mosquitoes become less and thus prevent any decease. How many officials in Municipal Corporation do their job sincerely and devoutly to keep a check on cleanliness in city. How many times have BBMP done their job of spraying medicines around areas which are reasons for mosquito breeding.!!!
Come on Ministers, MLAs & MLCs and others, think before you talk and act before it is too late. stop your blame game, which is just going to be worse in every view..!!

Why blame only Mr. Khader for the dengue issue. Its not a medical problem, its a municipality problem. The BBMP and other municipal authorities have to be pulled up for the widespread of dengue, since they are the most responsible. No fumigation and controlling of mosquito breeding is done. No awareness of dengue is being given to citizens and no proper steps are taken to curb the mosquito menace. If the mosquitoes are controlled then not only dengue but chikungunya, malaria and other life threatening diseases also can be curbed.
I think the CM, Health Minister and all our established opposition leaders should join together and punish the municipal & BBMP engineers and officials for dereliction of duty, for everything else to fall in place.
