Mangalore: CM Kumaraswamy Marvels at Moscheni Masterpieces at Aloysian Chapel

Mangalore, May 31: Chief minister of Karnataka H D Kumaraswamy, currently on a campaign trail for the assembly by-election from Ullal, paid an unscheduled visit to the chapel of the St Aloysius College on the Light House Hill in the city on Thursday morning.

He was welcomed by the college management which included college principal Fr Swebert D'Silva, immediate past principal Dr Eugene Lobo and others. The chief minister was accompanied by JD(S) leaders - former minister Amaranath Shetty, former Hassan MP Javare Gowda, former student of the college B Subbayya Shetty, state party general secretary M B Sadashiva, former Sullia MLA K Kushala and others.

The CM took part in a prayer service held in the chapel to mark his visit.

Kumaraswamy marvelled at the masterpieces of mural paintings created by Italian Brother Antonio Moscheni over a century ago and appreciated the efforts of the college in preserving the work of art.

In private, the CM is said to have expressed his regret that he was not aware of such beautiful artwork existing in the chapel and for having had no oppportunity to have a look at them all these years.

He later had tea with the college authorities and also gathered information on the strides of progress the college had made over the past century and longer.
