Mangalore, Jun 24: The final reports reaching Daijiworld office have confirmed that out of the 5 persons missing in the sea from the sunken Eritrean ship 'DenDen' 4 have been rescued while one is still missing. Dakshina Kannada SP B Dayanand while speaking to Daijiworld over the phone confirmed 21 have been rescued, one is missing while two died earlier.
As reported earlier 2 of them died during the earlier rescue operations while 3 are still in serious condition. The injured have been admitted to AJ, NMPT, Mangala and KMC Hospitals in the city.
Thousands of people who had thronged to the place however were of the opinion that Coastal Guards proved inefficient in the rescue operations. It was largely owing to the efforts and initiatives of local fishermen that rest of the crew were saved and brought safely to the shores.

Mangalorean Sea Swallows African Ship - 5 Men Still Missing

Mangalore, Jun 23: As feared earlier, the West African ship "DenDen" which was caught in the middle of the sea near Tannir Bavi here has at last been completely swallowed by hungry sea. All the efforts to pull the ship to the shore failed as ship sunk in front the eyes of thousands gathered by the spot.
As reported earlier out of the total 24 persons in the ship 2 persons have already died and 3 are in serious condition while 14 more have been rescued. But as of now 5 persons are still missing and they have not been spotted after they jumped into the sea when it sunk.
'DenDen' ship from Eastern African country Eritrea was on its way to Dubai after loading furnace oil from KISKO on Tuesday June 19. But no sooner it left the shore, a technical snag was reported. As a result ship was anchored in the sea, a few nautical miles away from NMPT. Abraham Kuhan, a native of Ghana who is the cpatain of the ship declined technical help saying that they were able to set the snag right.
But the ship moved towards Tannir Bavi shores owing to storm on Friday June 23 night and submerged in the sea. There were 3 Pakistanis, 16 Eritreans, 2 each from Sudan, Ghana and one from Sri Lanka.
The present situation is that people are thronging in thousands to the shore. Local fishermen have been of great help since they took initiative to rescue the trapped crew of the ship. Though the names of all of them are not available sources confirmed that Tamrat, Yakoob, Immanuel, Ilias, Abraham Kuhan and Birhane were among the crew.

Mangalore, Jun 23: Daijiworld correspondent reporting from the spot has just confirmed that out of the 24 crew members of the sinking "Den Den" ship 2 persons died and 3 more are in critical condition.
Though the Coastal Guards tried their best to rescue the crew, they could not owing to torrential rains and storm. Finally a total of 12 members from the ship tried to reach shore with the help of a local small boat. But that too capsized and all of them were in the sea fighting for life. Their life jackets have been damaged.
Finally 7 were brought to the shore out of which 2 died and 3 are fighting for life in the A J Hospital. The identity and nationality of the deceased is yet to be released.
Sources also said that 12 more persons are caught in the ship and they have now been asked to jump into the sea with their life jackets and swim to the shore. Rough weather is preventing Coast Guards and even the locals from carrying out rescue works. Coast Guards rescue ship which went to the rescue operations returned empty.
On the other hand the ship has tilted on one side and now it is quite certain that it cannot be pulled to the shore. Some locals even said that Coastal Guards have failed in rescue operations and they proved inefficient in this crunch moment.
