Mangalore, Sep 27: Ananthakrishna, chairman of the Karnataka Bank Limited inaugurating a two-day Seminar on inspection, for Bank’s inspecting officers here recently, declared that it is not mere supervision it is super ‘vision’ that is very much essential for inspecting officials.
Inspection is not an impediment in fact it is essential for the improvement of our performance, he said. Inspecting officials have a key role to play in the present scenario. Their role is getting more and more complex with today’s expansion of banking operations characterized by diverse activities, he averred.
Further he stated that the inspecting officers should be thoroughly conversant with the rules and regulations of banking besides periodical upgradation of knowledge. They are the main bridge between the corporate/controlling office and branches. They should inform the dates and ingenuously gather the information. Being the watchdogs they should understand their job well with an open mind. They should hone their skills and develop necessary talent. They should act like a friend, philosopher and guide, he declared wisely.
General manager K H Shivaswamy Aithal welcomed the members and outlined the purpose of the Seminar. N SChakkera, general manager, explained how the role of inspecting officials will be challenging in the wake of the advent of IT and the impending implementation of Basel II.
Dr N Bhaskaran, principal, Staff Training College, proposed the vote of thanks while U Rama Rao, senior manager, compered the programme. Executives at HO, regional head of Mangalore region too were present on the occasion.
