Mangalore, Sep 29: Election guidelines prohibit government servants from contesting elections.

Blame it on ignorance or sheer impudence, Congress has fielded a government servant in Kambla (ward number 29) in the city corporation elections.

An investigation by this paper has revealed that Congress candidate M Devdas is employed as a lab attendant in Canara College.

Office of Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education confirmed that Devdas is a lab attendant in government- aided Canara College and was receiving salary from the government.

A copy of letter issued by Canara High School Association, which runs Canara College, clearly emphasises ‘permission is subjected to approval from Joint Directorate.’

JD office, which has not issued any such permission, will now issue a notice seeking an explanation. Meanwhile Devdas has lodged a second complaint with the police, claiming threat to his life.

A copy of the complaint released to the media states that he was threatened with dire consequences if he failed to withdraw his candidature.

On Wednesday, Devdas circulated copies of his first complaint to the police accusing BJP candidate of stealing his banners and posters pasted around the ward.
