Kundapur, Oct 16: Fishermen here are going through anxious moments owing to sand which has been accumulating in the 150 metre long jetty in the fishing area near here.

Just a few months back the new port was inaugurated, and in such a short span high tide has brought in its wake lots of sand, congesting the jetty area. Dredging work was undertaken in the 400 metre long jetty area before the inauguration and the tyres used in the new jetty have broken away. Due to this the boats that come in straight away hit the jetty this in turn has caused damage not only to the boats but the jetty too.

Fishermen are puzzled at this sand that has been building-up in the new jetty area. Moreover the old jetty has also been completely damaged. Fishermen said that a T must be constructed in the estuary area which will also help in anchoring the boats. This being the fishing season, concerned officers and the leaders must take into consideration the matter and solve this problem, demanded the fishermen.
