Mangalore, Oct 16: The Beary member list which has been forwarded to the state government by Kendra Beary Sahitya Parishat (KBSP) does not include the names of those who had put in sincere efforts towards promoting Beary language for more than a couple of decades, rued well-known Kannada and Tulu writer Mohammed Baddoor at the press club here on Monday October 15. This list contains names of those who are mere proverbial cats, he alleged.

Referring to persons included in the Beary list, Baddoor recommended that the list should contain names of those whose contributions to Beary literature are invaluable and not those who neglected promoting activities in the language and demoralized those who were eager to promote Beary language and literature.

Addressing media persons the writer alleged that certain self-centred persons were lobbying using political influence to capture the posts of president and members at the Beary Sahitya Academy. He pointed out that those who state that their names must be considered have made no significant contributions to Beary language.

According to him those who are lobbying for Academy leadership are not at all patrons of Beary language, instead their sole aim is to gain power. It is better if the academy does not entertain such persons. Hence he condemned the current list and urged the government to identify those selfless Beary writers who work for the language.

Towards this end he demanded that a nodal officer must be appointed and a survey conducted to identify the deserving ones in the Beary community. It should also include Hindus names while recommending office-bearers names, informed Ajit Baikampady.

Bashir Kinya and J Hussein were present at the press meet.
