Mangalore, Oct 25: T M Shaheed, chief secretary of state youth Congress has urged the state administration to set up a separate department, with the objective to look into the welfare of those who are working in Gulf.  He has also appealed the administration to appoint a special officer to respond to the grievances of Gulf-employed coastal residents and NRI’s from across the state.

T M Shaheed was on his Gulf tour along with Ramesh Chennitala, president of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and others, to attend Congress programmes held in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and other cities of United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently.

Kannada Sangh president Prabhakar Ambattalam urged Ramesh Chennital, to suggest Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, to set up KPCC branch in Sharjah.  A discussion was held in this regard with veteran state Congressmen as well as youth attended by T M Shaheed and Prabhakar Ambattalam, while a letter has already been written to KPCC.

T M Shaheed met Talmiz Ahmed, Indian ambassador to UAE, George Joseph, Indian ambassador to Sultanate of Oman, Balakrishna Shetty, Indian ambassador to Bahrain and Consul General of Indian Embassy in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and urged them to take action on those employers who exploit labourers including housemaids by paying lesser salaries for more hours of work and ill-treating them.
