Mangalore, Oct 25: Upadyaya's concept of the Indian independence was entirely different and singular as it had upheld human civilization focusing upon emancipation of all weaker sections, said Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore in his presidential address here on Wednesday October 24.
 
He was addressing the gathering at a seminar on "Bramhabandava Upadhyaya- a pioneer of Hindu Christian dialogue" held under the joint aegis of St Joseph 's Seminary, Jeppu and Chair in Christianity of Mangalore University.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop said that Upadhyaya strongly believed that the core meaning of the notion freedom and independence is to free country from shackles and chains that have imprisoned her. Being an Indian and being a Christian is never paradox or contradictory, he stated.
 
Describing Upadhyaya "a sanyasi in true sense," he suggested that there must be no compromise on Upadya's principles as he was true upholder of today’s buzzword.
 
Upadyaya is a person, who understood essence of richness of the Hinduism and depth of the Christianity, opinioned Fr Francis Serrao, rector, St Aloysius College in his inaugural address on the occasion.
 
Though the advent of the Christianity in India is a delayed phenomenon, it had a positive impact on the country. Brahma Samaj of Raja Ram Mohan Roy is a singular example of the impact. It sets a classic example for Hindu-Christian amalgamation as it had been inspired by the Christianity and received ideologies from the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita.
 
He played progressive and positive medium for the continuation of the tradition of the previous social reforms in India. He is an intellectual giant who Christianized India and Indianized Christianity, he added.
