Mangalore: ‘Interceptor’ to Check Traffic Offenders

Mangalore, Nov 28: Be on guard if you are driving under the influence of alcohol, or using a mobile phone while driving or over-speeding in notified speed limits.

The new ‘interceptor’ is here to track and trap such traffic offenders. Deputy Commissioner’s Head Quarters Assistant (HQA) Prabhakar Sharma told reporters on Tuesday that the interceptor vehicle would be introduced in the city to bring down accidents.

He said; ‘‘the interceptor can detect and transfers data of vehicles if the driver is inebriated, using mobile phone while driving or driving in break-neck speed to the laptops of traffic police.’’ Interceptor vehicles were already in use at Bangalore, Sharma said.

Such unique vehicles would be launched by district superintendent of police N Sateesh Kumar in the city on December 2. A demonstration of the functioning of interceptor would be held on the day of launch, he informed and added that the vehicle cost was around Rs 40 lakh.

    Tracking down the offenders of drunken driving & use of cell phones while driving is a good move at the right time in Mangalore. This will certainly reduce the above offenders and may also reduce accidents to some extent.
