Mangalore: ‘Kadri Kambla’ to Enthrall Folk Art Lovers on Dec 2

Mangalore, Nov 28: Historically renowned Kadri Sri Manjunatheshwara Kambla (Annual slush track buffalo race) will be held on Sunday, December 2 in the presence of Mahantarasa Rajayogi, Sandyanathan of Kadri Sri Yogishwara Math, Kadri Navneeth Shetty informed media persons here on Wednesday, November 28.

The primary focus of the slush track buffalo race is to enable the rich tradition and cherished culture of the region to come to the fore. More number of people will definitely converge as the track is also used for a tug of war and ‘Thayyappangai’, which is local version of rugby, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, DK district.

All these competitions will be organized by Kadri Kambla Samiti (Committee constituted with the sole aim of organizing the race) in association with Kalkura Foundation, Ganesh Shipping Agencies, Land links and Lions Club Kodialbail, he added.  

Muddy field race will be inaugurated by A Sadananda Shetty, president, Sri Devi Education Trust and Satish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, DK district. The prizes will be given away by Krishnappa Poojary, commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation and Ganesh Rao, chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges, he added.

Tug of war will be inaugurated by Yogish Bhat and the programme will be presided over by MM Kudva, deputy general manager, Canara Bank,  The prizes will be given away by BR Bhat, general manager, Corporation Bank and Krupa Amar Alva, former president of Lioness Club, he elaborated.

‘Buffalo Race’ will be inaugurated by Harikrishna Punaroor, former president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Maheshwara Rao, Deputy Commissioner, DK district.  The prizes will be given away by A Mohan Rao, general manager, Corporation Bank and Jayaram Bhat, general manager, Karnataka Bank, he explained.

Nagaraj and Dinesh Gollarakery, chief secretary were present on the occasion.
