Mangalore: 'Mothers Day' Celebrated at Milagres

Mangalore, Nov 28:  The Ladies Social Service League LSSL), Milagres unit, celebrated ‘Mothers Day’ on Sunday, November 25.  The programme begun with Eucharistic Mass at 4 – 00 p m offered by Fr J B Crasta, manager, St Joseph’s Workshop, Jeppu.  After the mass, all the mothers gathered at the Milagres Junior College premises, while the registration process was held followed with refreshments.  The programme started with prayer by Octavia Albuquerque, the president of the LSSL, Mangalore main.

Lily Pereira, in her welcome speech spoke in brief about the history of ‘Mothers Day’.  She then welcomed Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest, Milagres church, Fr J B Crasta, Octavia Albuquerque, president of the main LSSL, Dr Derek Lobo, chief speaker of the day, Alwyn Rosario, vice president, Milagres parish council, Raymond Fernandes, secretary, parish council and the entire audience.

The welcome song was sung by the L.S.S.L. members. A little child Monisha Fernandes, expressed her sentiments about her Mother. A youth, Showel Rego, poured out in words his love for his Mother, narrating an incident, which spelt out the sacrifice of a Mother that strengthened the bond between him and his mother. Dr. Derek Lobo gave an enlightening talk. He shared a few incidents in his family. At the time of a crisis in the family he said, it is the Mother who comes to the rescue.  So many homes would have been destroyed, if not for the sacrifice of a Mother.

Fr. Walter D'Mello with his melodious voice, sang the praises of a Mother, and congratulated all those present. Lynette D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

This was followed by games and entertainment. Tiny tots of ‘Babyland’ performed a dance. Little children trained by Lovina D'Souza, sang a beautiful song on Mother. Meena Malani entertained the crowd with her jokes.

The games were conducted by Renni Correa. The programme was compered by Adeline Machado.

There were around 250 people present on the occasion.
