Mangalore, Nov 30: Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) and the Federation of University and College teachers Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK) condemned the decision of the state government to stop salary grant to 26 aided colleges in the state which secured less than B-grade from the National Accreditation and assessment Council (NAAC).

In a press release issued jointly by AMUCT and FUCTAK here on Thursday November 29, the office bearers of these organizations said that it is improper if the officials take a biased decision having far reaching insinuations in the absence of an elected government. 

The FUCTAK had protested against it last year when the government instigated such a measure. But the protest was withdrawn by assuring of holding a detailed discussion on the issue, a press release stated.

According to press release, NAAC believes that the system of grading and the salary grant should not be linked with each other. There is no point in making only the teachers and the employees accountable for the college grades, when other stakeholders and factors are also equally accountable.

In the field of higher education aided colleges and institutions in the state are doing creditable job, the release added. Among these colleges, most of them are situated in rural areas thus helping the weaker sections of the society. Whereas few of them are evening colleges thus imparting education to financially weaker sections who work during day time and study during evening time.

Such institutions, which help the weaker sections of the society, should be given sufficient amount of time to get the necessary and required grade from NAAC, the release added.

AMUCT and FUCTAK credited the act to anti-people attitude of the bureaucrats. They also requested the governor to solve the problems of the employess and release their salary without any delay.
