Udupi: Locals to hold Fast against Nagarjuna on Dec 2

Udupi, Dec 1: Udupi deputy commissioner has not yet reacted to the people’s appeal against Nagarjuna Power Project in anyway, said Vijay Kumar Hegde, working president, Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samiti at a press conference here on Friday November 30.

He further said that the DC is being partial towards Nagarjuna. Acquisition of land illegally, limitation of admission and entry into the Nagarjuna area and other rules and regulations of the company are the main reason for the locals’ dissatisfaction, he added.

During their protest against Cogentrix the efforts to send the company back failed till they decided to fast at Brahmasthana temple at Padubidri near here, Hegde said.

He further said that the history will be repeated again on Sunday December 2. The locals have decided to hold a fast on this day at the temple under the leadership of MP Manorama Madhwaraj and Balakrishna Shetty, he informed.

Kemaru and Manila Swamijis will also participate in the fast, he added.

He further said that a protest will be staged at Kundapur divisional forest officer’s office and a lock out will be staged at the office on Wednesday December 5.

On Sunday December 2 the Samiti has decide to boycott the historical Kadri Kambla as Madhusudan Rao from Lanco, a sister concern of Nagarjuna Company will attend the said Kambla. 

The Samiti has also challenged Jayashreekrishna Shetty, Vishwanath Mada, former minister V S Acharya and Dr B M Hegde, members of Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti to come and participate in the discussion on an open forum and prove that they are right in supporting Nagarjuna.
