M’lore: Interceptor Vehicle Launched-Traffic Offenders Be Wary

Mangalore, Dec 3: The interceptor vehicle provided to the Mangalore Regional Transport Office (RTO) by the state, was inaugurated by M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner at the DC’s office premises, here on Sunday December 2. 
 
A demonstration on its working was also held on the occasion. The interceptor vehicle costing Rs 38 lac, is equipped with a rotating camera on top. This helps in capturing images of people indulging in various kinds of traffic offenses.
 
The said equipped camera also captures records of vehicles speeding above 40 km, and this matter can be stored with exact date and time in a laptop pc. The camera is positioned in such a way that it will read the number plate of a vehicle.Thus the new interceptor vehicle will also help officials in cracking down on speeding vehicles, people riding without helmets, those using mobile phones while driving and riding as well as those driving vehicle whilst they are drunk.  

A breath analyser is also equipped to the interceptor, which will assist in catching persons indulging in drunken driving. Five such interceptors are operational under each RTO in the state. The data or information will be stored in RTO’s system and will be passed on to traffic inspectors through wireless so that they can catch the motorist with evidence.

This kind of an advanced technology is immensely essential to control trafiic. Especially in present times, when vehicular transport has become one of the basic amenities of life and the number of vehicles is increasing day by day adding to the level of air pollution and number of road accidents, informed RTO D Sadashiva.speaking here after the inaugural function. 
 
A workshop for special magistrates and inspectors was also organized by the district legal services authority along-with the police department, RTO and revenue department after the launch of the interceptor. K B Chengappa, first additional session’s judge inaugurated the workshop. M Maheshwar Rao, DC and Monappa Bhandary, president, bar association were the guests at the said workshop. Advocate Udayananda and Karthik Uduppa where the resource person. Lokesh Kumar, additional SP was present on the occasion.

    Good News from R.T.O. Mangalore about Interceptor Vehicle. I hereby request the authorities to first launch this vehicle at Nanthoor junction ,where own R.T.O people take bribes from truck drivers coming from other states and pass through N.H.17
