Mangaluru, Oct 13: After a goods train moving towards Hassan from the city derailed near Sirivagilu railway station near Sakleshpur on Wednesday, rail traffic between the city and Bengaluru suffered. It is learnt that railway tracks to a stretch of two km were damaged due to this derailment. Trains could not move on this route on Wednesday.

Immediately after the derailment, the rescue team as well as railway workers from Subrahmanya and Hassan were brought to the spot to undertake repair works. The train between Yashwantpur and Karwar was stopped at Hassaan station and the passengers were dispatched to the city by buses. The passengers were even given the option of seeking a refund, which many opted for, unable to wait for long hours before alternative arrangements could be made.

Railway safety council sources said that the repairs would be finished by Wednesday night and the night train between Kannur and Bengaluru would move normally.
