Udupi: Trees, Pastures Destroyed in Wild Fire in Belapu Village

Udupi, Feb 21: In a major fire, about 18 acres of forest was gutted owing in Belapu village here on Wednesday, February 20.

The reasons for the fire are not yet known. The locals informed the authorities about the wild fire when they saw huge smoke engulfing the pasture land.

The fire brigade personnel who arrived on the spot struggled together with the locals for several hours, but finally managed to curb the fire from spreading to neighbouring paddy fields. Several trees and a large area of grazing land has been burnt in the wild fire, sources informed.
