Mangaluru, Sep 9: The police on Saturday September 9 busted a huge medical seat racket in the city and arrested 10 persons hailing from various parts of the country for cheating two aspirants from Delhi and Rajasthan.

The arrested are Ajay Kumar Mukherjee alias Maurya alias Kailash Prakash Maurya (41), a native of 24 Parganas, north Kolkata, Saurabh Gupta alias Diwakar (32), native of Lucknow, Anup Singh (35), a native of Jharkhand who lives in Goa, Amit Ranjan (25) from Bihar, Swapan Biswas alias Mahesh Kumar (54) from Kolkata, Rajeev Kumar A (30), a native of Hyderabad, Anil Tulsiram Samtani alias Jayesh Ranglani (62) from Hyderabad who stays in Kolkata, Manish Kumar Shah (30), a native of Ranchi, Jharkhand, Dheeraj Sharma alias Vikram (30) from Jamshedpur, and Sanjay Kumar Mathur (26), also of Jharkhand.

As per the complaint, the accused had promised to provide medical seats to the children of Kamal Singh of Delhi and Mahendar of Rajasthan in a prestigious college in the city. They had even brought them to the city for a visit of the college, and posed as officials of the medical institution with fake identity cards. They then obtained demand drafts worth Rs 5.4 lac from Kamal and Mahendar, assuring them that their children would be provided seats. However, they absconded.

A case was filed in Kadri police station based on a complaint by Kamal and Mahendar.

The police led by inspector Maruthi Nayak took up the investigation and succeeded in busting the racket.
The police have recovered Rs 10.07 lac in cash, two demand drafts worth Rs 5.4 lac, 20 mobile phones, two laptops, one iPad, one printer, one Innova car and a Chevrolet car from the accused. Fake identity cards bearing the name of two city-based private medical colleges were also seized. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 30,98,700.

Further investigations are on.

    Good job by Mangalore police.

But, what our so called Income Tax Department doing ? Every year the so called "management seats" alias "payment seats" are sold across private 8177Medical, Dental & Engineering colleges across India. Most part of this"sale consideration" gets routed through "cash".

Government is loosing so much revenue in the form of "Income Tax". What action IT department is taking to avoid its recurrence ???

If government can't control this business please add "P" (Paid) or "M" (Merit) as suffix at the end of their degrees once these students qualify. So that public can easily identify "black money" paid professionals & "clean money" merit professionals while opting for their services.

We all know why Mangalore is flourishing, the amount collected for professional seats. In the above case there are no Mangaloreans involved but there are so many agents involved during the admission time.
