Udupi: Kannada Sahitya Parishat Polls on August 24

Udupi, Jun 7: The much-awaited polls for the post of state president and presidents of district units of Kannada Sahitya Parishat will be held on Sunday, August 24.

Udupi Tahsildar V B Fernandes, has been appointed the electioneering officer of Udupi district unit of the Parishat, stated a press release issued by the organization.

The poll centers for voters from Udupi and Karkala taluks will be set up at the Udupi taluk panchayat office while voters from Kundapura taluk will cast their vote at the local taluk panchayat office.

Udupi district has a total of 849 voters, of which 501 are in Udupi taluk and 87 in Karkala taluk while Kundapura taluk has 261 voters, said Tahsildar V B Fernandes.

As per the directives of chief election officer of the Parishat, polling dates will be displayed at the offices of Udupi taluk panchayat, gram panchayats, revenue inspectors, village accountants, and taluk panchayats, Fernandes added.

Any discrepancies in the voters’ list will have to be pointed out in writing by Friday, June 20.  Moreover, voters are required to carry their photo identity card or ID issued by the Parishat on the polling day. 

The organization has already issued identity cards to a majority of voters while those who are yet to apply for one, can contact the office of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, 3rd floor, Pampa Mahakavi Road, Chamarajapet, Bangalore – 560 018.

After the polling, the counting of votes will be held at the polling centers. Votes from all polling centers in Kundapura will be counted at the local taluk panchayat.  The final results will be announced at the Udupi district poll counting center after pooling the votes from all centers, said Fernandes.
