Mangalore: Mandd Sobhann Hunt for the Most Mellifluous Voice

Mangalore, Jun 14: Mandd Sobhann, an organisation spearheading the cause of Konkani language and culture and through the efforts of which Konkani has found it's name etched in the Guinness Book of World Records, will be organising a Konkani singing competition on television. The programme is titled 'Soad-2' (A search for sweet voices) and is open for anyone above the age of 15 years(both male and female). The contest is for singing in Konkani, but the contestants can be from any religion, caste, language or creed.

The winner (a male and a female) will win:

i.  The title of ‘Rai Kogull’ (King Cuckoo) and ‘Rani Kogull’ (Queen Cuckoo) - SOAD 2, ii.  Rs 25,000/- each, in cash prize, iii. Opportunity to sing for recordings and shows, iv. Free specialized training in singing for a year and v. Other prizes in kind.

In addition, the top 10 singers will get i.Rs 5000/- each in cash prize,     ii. Chance to perform in live shows, (‘TOP-10’ live), iii. a VCD recording and   iv. Other prizes in kind

The recording of the preliminary round will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at 9.30am at Kalangann, Shaktinagar. All those interested in taking part in the contest may register their names before June 28, over telephone nos 0824-2232239 or 2230489.

There will be no entry fee. The programme will be telecast on Namma T.V., every Sunday morning (11am to12 noon), starting from July 13, 2008, a release from Mandd Sobhann said.
