Udupi, Oct 27: Tense situation that surfaced due to the altercation between the relatives of a deceased and doctors with regards to the twisting of the postmortem report was sorted peacefully due to the intervention of the police at Ajjarkad government hospital on Thursday, October 26.

Ravindra Poojary of Pilar, Shirva was admitted to a private hospital after he suffered cardiac arrest. However, he breathed his last on the way to the hospital. Subsequently, his body was kept in the mortuary of the district hospital and the post mortem was to be conducted on the morning of Thursday, October 26. Though the family members of the deceased were present at the hospital at 9 am, the hospital authorities did not carry out the postmortem till 3 pm. Angered by the lackluster attitude of the doctor, the family members and locals vented their resentment against the doctor.

The doctor on duty retaliated saying that he will conduct the postmortem as and when he wants and no one can pressurize him in this regard. He reportedly told that he will tamper with the postmortem report as well. The family members and locals got furious when the doctor used such insensitive language.

The medical officer dismissed the allegations of the family members and locals unceremoniously and said, "We received the body of Ravindra Poojary only at 3 pm and because of the non-availability of doctor, we told the family of the deceased that the postmortem will be conducted only on Thursday. As they did not agree to my request, we had kept the body in the mortuary. We could not carry out the postmortem on Thursday morning as we had huge rush of patients and also the concerned specialist who conducts the postmortem was not available."

District surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak said that he does not have any information with regards to the medical doctor's statement of tampering the medical report as claimed by the family members of the deceased.
