Kasargod, Oct 28: Badiadka police arrested a man said to be involved in more than nine criminal cases, under the Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act.

The man reportedly threatened a sand lorry driver, hijacked his lorry and demanded a ransom from the driver.

The arrested suspect is identified as Akshay (26) from Bela, Chowkar. “Six cases are registered against him in Badiadka police station and three cases in Kumble police station,” said the police.

A month ago, three men intercepted a illegally transporting sand from Karnataka, at Neerchalu, near Badiadka. The suspects had threatened the lorry driver, taken him to Kargil, near Bela, an isolated place and demanded ransom. Though the police raided the place after a tip off, the suspects had fled. Police are searching for the other two suspects.

Cases of assaults, threats, stabbing and assault on the trader are registered against Akshay in Badiadka and Kumble police station.

He was involved in several cases after 2013. Badiadka police had submitted a complaint against him in RDO court.
