Mangaluru: SP asks inactive home guards to be replaced by fresh appointments

Mangaluru, Nov 3: Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, has asked the home guards officials to drop the home guard volunteers who have remained inactive after registering themselves and appoint new ones in their place. He was speaking at the meeting of unit officers held at the home guards district office here on Thursday November 2.

He noted that out of around 850 home guards whose names are listed in the office, 188 are not active. "They should be dropped and new home guards should be appointed. Home guards on duty should compulsorily wear khaki uniforms with white belts without fail," he said.

District commandant, Dr Murali Mohan Choontaru, who presided, said that 850 home guards in the district are working for fire and emergnency services, police, prison, regional transport office etc. He said more volunteers will be appointed soon.

Deputy commandant, Ramesh Kumar, was present. Second in command, Muhammed Ismail, welcomed everyone. Unit officers of 14 units in the district who participated in the meeting, explained about the problems and issues concerning their respective units.
