Mangalore: Opposition Threatens to Lock up MCC

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 29: Harinath, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) opposition leader has warned that he would lock up the MCC premises if the corporation administration fails to implement development programmes. He also accused mayor Ganesh Hosabettu of failing to conduct any developmental works after getting elevated to the post.

Addressing a press conference organized at the Patrika Bhavan here on Monday July 28, he said that the mayor had failed to implement development programmes in the city. The five-month rule of the BJP here has not witnessed a single development work so far, he complained. The corporation has to convene monthly council sessions once a month but this time, even after 45 days, the council is yet to meet. There is a heavy rush of people at the corporation office, of those who have been harassed with unreasonable water bills issued by meter readers. Their problems are not being addressed promptly, he said.

He also accused BJP of stopping the Rs 15 lac development fund allocated to individual corporators. The MCC has failed to collect property and other taxes and as against a target of Rs 1.90 crore for the entire year, it could collect only Rs 85 lac, he said.

Harinath blamed BJP for neglecting the opposition. He also criticized the previous corporation commissioner's action in suspending three engineers without holding any inquiries. Suspension of one of the engineers however was revoked immediately, thanks to his political clout, he said.

Former MCC mayors Ashraf and Shashidhar Hegde were present at the press conference.

Mr.Harinath, please go ahead and lock up MCC. You are doing a great favour to Public. RBI shuts those non performing Banks and Board of Directors of Corporations shut their under performing companies. Same as such that you are shutting down a Institution that does not perform plus it is a DEN of corruption.

Mr.Harinath, you should have shut the place when your party had the keys in hand. Now,you may not know which communal branch of ruling party has the keys to lock. Last 2 years plus, during Mr.Ashraf's administration there was one man-hole was spitting million Litres of RAW SEWER near Kadri Kambla. Congress could not use the Hand to fix the problem. Now there are two(2) man-holes are spitting double the amount of RAW SEWER all around ground including the road.

Now Lotus can be planted in this dirty water. Crows are having good time eating the Fecal contents coming out of these man-holes. What a lovely scene to watch. Beside Crows, people also quench thirst with the water supplied from this area. This area supplies drinking water to many Hotels, Hospitals and Apartments around the city. 2 years is long time, and I am sure that ground is very well saturated with this sewer water and part of it is entering the wells around there. Then we all wonder why there are so many illnesses in Mangalore. Mr.Harinath,I will say a prayer for your courage. Go for it!!!
