Bantwal: Saplings Distributed at Nirkan Church

  Saplings were distributed at the Udayakirana auditorium, Vagga, on   Sunday, July 27. The programme was organized jointly by National Plantations Mission, plantation department, Bantwal Catholic Sabha Nirkan unit, and the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project. 
 
Ramanath Ra, MLA, inaugurated the programme and said that government benefits should reach the poor.  It is essential to count how many saplings have survived from the  saplings planted last year, in order to calculate the success of the distribution programme. 
 
Manikyaraj Jain, president, gram panchayat, presided over the programme. Tungappa Bangera, was the chief guest. He emphasized that the facilities of the plantation department meant for the rural areas should be better utilized.
 
Flossy D’Souza, president, taluk steering committee, conveyed his best wishes to the endeavour. Stanly Lobo, president, Catholic Sabha, Kanchalaxmi, vice-president, taluk panchayat, Shalini Jain, member, taluk panchayat, P Jinaraj Ariga, and Stanly Lasrado, vice-president, parish council, were present on the occasion.
 
Fr Edwin Correa, parish priest, St Thomas the Apostle, Nirkan, distributed the saplings to SC/ST beneficiaries.  Around 5,000 saplings of various types were distributed on the occasion. Alphonse Fernandes welcomed the gathering.  Sanjeev Naik, plantations assistant director, proposed the vote of thanks and compered.
