Mangalore: Book Release Function of 'Karnico' held

Mangalore, Jan 28: The book release function of 'Karnico', authored by Raghu Idkidu was held at Canara College auditorium in the city recently.

Speaking after releasing the book, Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, president, Tulu Sahitya Academy, gave vent to his disappointment over the fact that Tulu language has not been able to get the rightful status it is entitled to, in spite of carrying on a prolonged struggle for the same to get it included in the VIII chapter of the Indian constitution. Good Tulu literature must be developed for the healthier growth of Tulu language, he advised.

The author has tried to explain the worship, belief and celebration systems of Tulunadu culture along with different facets of the life of Tuluvas, Dr Achar noted.

Speaking after introducing the work, Muddu Moodubelle, programme coordinator, Mangalore Akashavani, said that in comparison to collection of poems and novels, collection of short stores is a form of literature that has been rare in Tulu language.

Harikrishna Punaroor, former president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, presided over the function.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, congratulated the author for successfully bringing out the book.

Bhuvanabhirama Udupa of Yugapurusha delivered the introductory address on the occasion.

Taranat Kairangala, artiste, coordinated the programme.

Justice T Narayan Poojary, P Janardhan Pai, principal, Canara Pre-University College and Madhava U, retired inspector, Regional Transport Office, were present on the occasion.
