Mangalore: Kashi Math Wins Legal Battle - GSB Community Elated

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (SN/SP)

Mangalore, Jan 29: Through a historical verdict, a court in Tirupati has ordered Sri Raghavendrateertha, who was dethroned from being the ‘Patta Shishya’ of Kashi Math and divested of his position and rights after being the heir apparent to succeed the Math Swamiji Sri Sudheendrateertha some years ago, to hand over the idols of presiding deity, other idols including all the traditional marks of honour and also all the paraphernalia of the Kashi Math presently in his position, to the Math Swamiji Sri Sudheendrateertha. Judge T K Sundar Kumar, through the judgment, dismissed the application made by Raghavendrateertha claiming that he is the 'Matadhipati' or spiritual head of Kashi Math and that he rightfully deserves to get all the honours and rights to which the top spiritual leader of the Math is entitled to.

Raghavendrateertha has been given a month's time to hand over all the Kashi Math assets back to Sudheendrateertha Swamiji along with the suit costs. A large number of devotees had gathered in the court premises when the judgment was pronounced. It may be recalled that Raghavendrateertha had, through a letter dated November 4 1999, requested Sudheendrateertha Swamiji to relieve himself of the Math duties and accordingly, he was discharged of all rights and duties by the Swamiji after consulting the devotees, on July 19, 2000.

The supporters of Shri Sudheendrateertha Swamiji, who were elated at the verdict, which came after a long wait of about nine years, gave vent to their joy by bursting crackers and revelling in front of the local Sri Venkatramana Temple. They were also seen raising slogans, hailing Sudheendrateertha Swamiji and Kashi Math.

Their joy was redoubled with the arrival of Sri Sudheendrateertha Swamiji at the temple on Wednesday January 29, for taking part in the annual car festival of the temple, scheduled to be held here from Thursday January 29 to Monday February 2. On Tuesday February 3, 'Avabhruta Snana' or holy dip, the concluding ritual of the car festival, will be observed.

To celebrate the triumph, special pujas were conducted in the Lord Venkatramana temples located in the city and also in Kundapur and Karkala.

every one has to honour the judgment of the court however you secured the same. but senior pontiff has failed to do his duty in guiding his shishya right from the beginning because the senior pontiff himself has failed to due his duty to the samaj. Except having relation with money launderers of the samaj the senior pontiff never tried to be in touch with any of the economically backward samajbandhava. However the senior pontiff won the case but in my opinion he doesn't have the moral duty to take deity etc. from the junior pontiff because the senior pontiff had several times in public platforms had degraded the deity by calling it as metal, etc. of which i don't want to comment because it is against values of our community and elders. He also rejected the deity which came to his foot steps at Bangalore way back in 2002. If the senior pontiff has got any respect to moral values he should not take back the deity, etc. from the junior pontiff. i hope he will do the same and take junior pontiff in to confidence and both will join hands together and take the samaj forward. Jai Sri Kashimath Samsthan, Jai Vedvyasa Deva

I think it is high time the GSB community gave up blind faith in the Swami order. Not long ago was the whole community prostrating before the junior and today we have him wrangling over assets in a court. We have to really learn from the Christian Community which converts all donated wealth into social welfare schemes and is blossoming in faith and numbers. The GSB community is shrinking and getting poorer except for a handful while our Maths and temples are getting richer. This way more of the poor among us will lose faith in Dharma and convert. We should firmly resolve to stop giving donations to these filthy rich maths and temples and instead set up schools, hospitals and anathashrams and keep the flock within the fold of Hindu dharma.

very happy to hear the good news. pray to lord for not repeating such incidents in the future, which has caused great pain to the devotees, since we as a disciplined community were at the receiving end due to the fight about the kashi math.we consider our guru as revered as our diety. with this incident lets us be more cautious in future .
