Bangalore, Jan 29: The habeas corpus petition moved by Rohini, executive director of ‘Karavali Ale' group of publications and wife of the group chairman B V Seetaram, alleging illegal detention of Seetaram by the police in the High Court, was taken up by the High Court for consideration on Wednesday January 28 and issued notice to the state government, calling for the status report on Seetaram's whereabouts.

The divisional bench comprising of Justice S R Bannurmath and Justice A R Gopal Gowda which took up the petition, directed counsel for the state government Geeta Menon to submit th report by Monday February 2.

Advocate for the petitioner A K Subbaiah argued that this is a clear case of threatening a journalist by registering various cases against him in police stations.  Rohini in her petition has alleged that Seetaram was kept under detention illegally and lodged in the jail ward of a hospital in Mysore, even after he secured bail.  She also has accused the state home minister of instigating activists of a few organizations in Udupi and Mangalore to harass Seetaram.
