Bangalore: BJP Does Damage Control - Suspends Sampangi

TNN

Bangalore, Jan 30: In a swift response to avoid embarrassment, the state BJP suspended its party MLA Y Sampangi, who was arrested by the Lok Ayukta police on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman.

Sampangi represents Kolar Gold Fields constituency. "A team of senior party leaders will further evaluate the allegations, and the final decision on disciplinary proceedings will be taken based on the findings,'' said D V Sadananda Gowda, the state BJP president.

Who is Sampangi?

Though not a native of KGF, Sampangi got elected to the legislative assembly from the constituency in the May 2008 elections by defeating former MLA S Rajendran of RPI. Hailing from Anekal in Bangalore district, he identified with various Dalit movements, backward classes and minorities. He even organized a mega event for these classes in Bangalore in 2007.

Though the local BJP unit in KGF was reluctant to accept him as the party's candidate, the people of KGF, who wanted a change from Rajendran and Bakthavachalam, helped Sampangi garner the support of young voters.

Once elected, he was in the news for both the right and wrong reasons. On the positive side, he made efforts to rope in many trade union leaders of the closed BGML under one banner to explore the possibility of reviving the Bharat Gold Mines Limited. He also attempted to establish a garment industry, and many entrepreneurs visited KGF to explore the possibility of setting up industries there.

On the flip side, he made news for unsavoury reasons on three occasions: once for an altercation with the police chief H S Venkatesh; the second time for staging a demonstration against SP and also levelling charges against it; and the third for allegedly assaulting a KSRTC driver which resulted in the crew staging a demonstration. However, Karunanidhi, the driver in question, denied the incident later.

I wonder why the media is not highlighting and going behind these kind of corrupt people. In a way these are the very foundations from where all other social ills emanate. Be it people visiting Pubs or the people who thrash people who visit PUBs. Media needs to highlight These kind of people and go behind them..

Working Life in India in all fields, be it politic's. business, employment, services, security agencies even religion, the wheels will not move unless something additional is done or paid for, than the actual cost. Politicians specially have so many supporters and well wishers to be taken care of, and unless additional money in the form of bribe and services is not accepted, it is very difficult to have a normal way of life. Accepting bribe should not be a crime, but giving it should be a crime

Clean and respected politician untill caught red handed in front of Cameras and proven guilty. Even then the noble man denies any knowledge of the incident he/she is involved with hard proof of camera footage. This is the game of the day ny our politicians.

Only Media can change things and nail people to their places and their jobs of social responsibility... The Days of Sri. Kanakadaasa in the Land of Sri. Kanakadaasa... where the Guru gave hima banana and asked him to eat in a place where God is not watching are no more??? Kanakadaasa said There is no place where I could eat the banana hiding from God because God is watching me everywhere ...

Our leaders and politicians and people in responsibility close their eyes and say in front of the Camera No we have not eaten and it was not banana, or it was my look alike or what not I did not eat you have wrong information.
