Udupi, Jan 30: Member of the Parliament from Mangalore constituency and state BJP president of BJP   D V Sadanand Gowda will be the BJP candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, announced BJP state spokesman C T Ravi.

Making this announcement at a press conference held  here on Thursday January 29 afternoon, Ravi informed that Gowda's name emerged as the front runner for the Udupi seat, during the introspective camp of the BJP office-bearers, held  at Laxmi Damodar Cashew Factory premises, located at Santhekatte, Hebri, near here on Wednesday January 28.

Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency consists of Kundapur, Udupi, Karkala, Sringeri, Chikmagalur, Moodigere and Tarikere legislative assembly constituencies.  BJP had secured 46 percent of votes in the last assembly polls from these constituencies while the grass root level activists are working to increase this percentage by another ten percent booth wise.  The BJP candidates for all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies across the state will be finalized and forwarded to the central committee, C T Ravi added.

Reacting to KPCC president R V Deshpande's statement in the media regarding the recent attack on women in a pub in Mangalore by Sri Rama Sena activists, C T Ravi said that Congress appears to be overly concerned about the modesty of women with political agenda in mind. The Congress has been protecting its MLA whose involvement in the murder of Naina Sahni in the famous Tandoor case has been clearly exposed.  The politicizing of Mangalore pub incident would rebound on both the Congress and JD (S), he emphasized.

The BJP has no political link with Sri Rama Sena.  Meanwhile, the doubts arise over the role of Congress in Mangalore pub incidenct, since Rajya Sabha member Suresh Kalmadi, New Delhi chief minister Sheela Dixit and Sri Rama Sena founder Pramod Mutalik were present in Bahu Bashik Brahmeen Sammelan  held recently at Pune, Maharastra, he pointed out.

The Congress has been alleging that the BJP is attempting to saffronize the student's awareness campaign on terrorism that is held in the education institutions in the state.  The Congress has been involved in this blame game, as it does not know what to do otherwise.

State energy minister K S Eshwarappa, district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, Third Finance  Commission chairman A G Kodgi, state planning commission deputy chairman D H Shankaramurti, Chikmagalur district BJP president Bhoje Gowda, organizing chief secretary Kumaraswamy, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi district BJP president Kota Srinivas Poojary and others were present at the press conference.
