Udupi, Jan 31: When idols of Lord Srinivasa along with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi arrived in the city on Friday evening in connection with the inauguration of 'Venkata-Krishna Nityotsava' at Sri Krishna Math here on Saturday morning and Kalyanotsava to be solemnized at 5 pm on Saturday January 31, a grand reception was accorded.

Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji Paryaya Puttige Math welcomed the idols by offering Arati at Jodukatte. Hundreds of people stood in wait for the arrival of their God, singing Bhajans, blowing trumpets, playing musical instruments etc. Students in uniform lent additional grandeur to the procession that started off as soon as the idols were brought here by the priests of Tirumala temple.

The idols were seated in the wooden chariot that has been made in preparation for the jewels-studded chariot Puttige Swamiji has planned to make during his Paryaya. At a religious meeting held at the Srikrishna Math Rajangan later, the Paryaya Swamiji said that Lord Srinivasa, who is believed to be in charge of riches, has been specifically invited here for seeking His blessings to mitigate the after-affects of the global melt-down. Shirur Math Swamiji Sri Lakshmivarateera too delivered benedictory speech.

Titumala Tirupati Temple Dasa Sahitya Project special officer Pagadala Anaandteertachar explained about the functioning of the Tirumala temple and also the daily Bhajans programme being taken up in Udupi under the aegis of the Project.

At night, the chariots were pulled by seating Lord Srikrishna in the Brahmaratha and Lord Srinivasa in the company of his two consorts, in the golden chariot.
